The Devonport Christian School seeks to engage in Biblical community rather than to maintain a merely traditional school culture. At DCS parents seek to fill out their responsibility to God to teach their children the ways of God in every aspect of their lives, educationally, socially, physically and emotionally, and the school is engaged to assist parents to achieve this aim. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Prov 22: 6) “And you fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” Eph. 6: 4.
To this end, DCS places a high priority throughout the school on Christian Living classes, weekly Scripture memory passages and daily prayers, devotions and assemblies. The rest of the curriculum across the board is taught from a biblical perspective by committed Christian staff.
Our curriculum follows the New South Wales Curriculum with minor adjustments to fit Tasmanian students (as in our local history, etc) until the new Australian National Curriculum replaces this in 2011, and includes:

Facilities at Devonport Christian School include a new state-of-the-art classroom block that was opened at the beginning of 2007.
Special features of this innovative, staff-designed structure include an fibre-optic integrated computer network with full internet capacity, modern intercom/phone connection to the rest of the school, self-contained wet areas with vinyl flooring for art and craft space, a separate art storage and paper stack room, two special education work rooms, and full carpeting throughout. This facility provides modern lighting and heating installations, vista windows for added light and ventilation, and pinboard wallspace on three out of every four walls for ease of displaying work and educational posters.
Add this new classroom block to the existing buildings, which include a good library, an internet-connected computer lab, extensive outside play and sports grounds, internet-connected computers in every classroom, and a Wetlands development noted nationally twice in 2006 on the ABC’s Landline program that won the Tasmanian Landcare Educational Award in 2007 and was Tasmania's finalist in the National Landcare Awards in 2008, Devonport Christian School has an enviable educational complex which will provide excellent contemporary learning centres for their students for well into the future.
In additionl, in 2008 we have refurbished an existing building into a combined Music/Special Purpose room complete wilth mounted data projector and screen for large-scale viewings.
